Autumn Interior

The seasons are once again a-changing and that means that it’s time to take a look at your interiors and see what could do with a bit of an update. If you want to make sure your home feels trend-fresh then we’re looking at some of the Top 5 trends for Autumn.

Dark colours

Ok so this may not seem like much of a ‘new’ trend but the shades for this year are based around the colour purple, rather than oranges, browns or blacks as we have seen in years gone by. Go for indigos, aubergines, dark lavender and rich magenta and match with slate grey and navy blue for a really modern colour palette.

Textures

There’s something wonderfully comforting about textures when the weather gets cooler and this year it’s becoming a feature for all the best looking interiors. Think tactile, sensory materials that have an effect when you touch them, from chunky woolen knits through to heavy cottons, bold brasses and smooth ceramics.

Patterns

Dark florals have made their way off the catwalks and into the interiors and we’re seeing a gothic version of the more traditional floral designs taking over. Old fashioned prints, vintage style blooms and deep, rich, dark palettes have come to define this trend. If the dark flowers aren’t for you then there are other options to help you hit the patterned nail on the head, from those that draw on nature to those inspired by the trend for adult colouring in books.

Simple and unfussy furniture

Scandinavian design has been big over the past couple of years and it’s not going anywhere this autumn – which is perfect if you’re planning to invest in patterns and textures and you need a stylish but simple backdrop for them. Smooth woods cut in clean lines define this trend with statement curves providing effect where necessary. This trend also takes a darker turn with the use of walnut and lacquered wood in the simple and elegant designs.

An eclectic finish

Perhaps the best of all the trends for this year is the eclectic finish – from doorknobs through to drawer handles, rugs through to lampshades, the best way to finish your interiors for Autumn is with something entirely unexpected. Velvet sofas, fringed Victorian lamps, animal pictures and the odd outrageously oversized houseplant are a great way to make an eclectic statement at home.
